Something very alarming happened to me, and the rest of the world last week. Kim Kardashian went platinum. Now this was not totally out of the blue because she has been threatening it for a while on all of her social media accounts… but what ever we thought she (and by she I mean Kanye since he pretty much runs the Kim K show these days) was planning, I am not sure that anyone was expecting her to step out full platinum. Personally, I think she had more potential to break the internet by going platinum than her original attempt with Paper Magazine. I mean everyone knows she has a HUGE behind, right? No one was ready for platinum, especially not me. I have taken a few days to reflect on this situation before posting about it mainly because it sent me spiraling into an emotional identity crisis, so I needed to take a few days to get myself together again. I am kidding. Sort of. Long story short, I went through many feelings and emotions in the days following Kim K’s platinum debut: At first I hated it. I thought it was the worst. I thought it was the stupidest idea ever and I was super pissed off at Kanye for enabling such activity. But then… as the days went on and Kim's instagram account kept flowing, I began to (in the words of Kim herself) ‘feel her look.’ I like the swooped back thing she had going on, and the whole deal was just starting to look very chic to me. Currently, my mood towards Kim’s new ‘do is positive. I am actually fighting very real urges to follow suit, just like I did when she went regular blonde. Don’t worry though Courtney, (my hair stylist at Tuscany Salon and Spa – she’s the greatest, people of Cincinnati. You need to look into getting an appointment with her) I am most likely not going to totally go off the deep end and ask you to bleach my head. Other people have reacted to Kim K’s new platinum look in other ways, lashing out through really hilarious memes. (I could not find the origin of either of these images, but a big Kudos and digital high-five to the brilliant mind that came up with these gems.) Mainly, what I am feeling is this: Can I pull of platinum blonde or not? I would never do it. But should I? I don’t know. My struggle is so real.

Welcome to the third and final tutorial in the spring beauty collab with NARS makeup artist Danielle Braeuer. We have a HUGE announcement coming next week to bring the spring beauty collab to a close, make sure you don’t miss it. Now on to our lip trend for spring – Incase you haven’t noticed, thanks to Kylie Jenner I have been really into lip game lately. Which means I am totally on trend, since our last big trend for spring in this series is a bright lip. The ‘Kylie’ lip color pallet however, along with the overdrawn lip look will be taking a back seat this spring. As we discussed, we are going for a natural, literally ‘just woke up like this’ look for spring. We will be focusing on warmer colored pastels like soft peach, soft pink or soft beige. One of the most prized lipstick shades of NARS is Fire Down Below, which was created to emulate the color of human blood. This shade took two years to perfect until it was released to consumers. What is the deal you ask? Why did it take so long to make a shade of lipstick you ask? What is interesting about this particular shade is that it looks good on everyone – the lightest of light, the darkest of dark, literally everyone. We are back with our fearless NARS glam goddess, Danielle Braeuer for a little Lip Game 101. To achieve this ‘just bitten’ look on the runways this year, the technique was pretty simple; they put on a heavy lip and then they basically took it all right back off. Lipstick is very important to NARS, it was the first product that was launched under the line – that’s right, the NARS empire was built on 12 different lipstick shades. In fact, back in the day, you could not find lipstick in a wide range of colors until NARS came out with the original 12 shades. Danielle’s suggestion for this bright lip look: Dolce Vita Velvet Matte Lip Pencil Step 1: This one is easy, just put it on! No liner, that will not lend to our ‘natural’ vibe very well. Even if you typically wear liner every day, trust. This lip pencil will make it seem like there is liner, with one less step. The Dolce Vita color is perfect for that just bitten or flushed look. Now you know everything and you are ready to become a non Parisian, Parisian goddess all spring long. A very important thank you to Danielle Braeuer and NARS for joining us to talk through the spring beauty trends. If you are in need of a makeover, or make up in general, go to Nordstrom Kenwood Towne Center, find the NARS counter and ask for Danielle. She will glam you right up!
