The most exciting part of the red carpet arrived right as things were winding down and people were going inside to find their seats. Rihanna popped out of a dark SUV wearing the most fabulous, fluffy 'so not Rihanna' gown. The best part were the images of Cinderella racing the clock to get home before the stroke of midnight that began running through my head as she dashed across the red carpet. It was truly a wonderful, un-scripted fashion moment. She did stop briefly to chat with Ryan Seacrest of E! to tell him that she was wearing Giambattista Valli, that she saw the dress on the runway and absolutely had to wear it. Then just like a dream, se was whisked inside to find her seat before the real show started. Now, I have had very mixed feelings about Rihanna over the past year, especially after her association with the Beyonce/Jay Z split rumors (rumors for the record, that I steadfastly denied to everyone who would listen), but the moment that she created last night (along with her new associations with my #1, Leonardo DiCaprio) have me re-thinking this whole Rihanna thing. Dare I say it, I might even like her now.
I have to say, as much as hollywood “showed out” for the SAG awards a few weeks ago, I was slightly under whelmed by the Grammy Awards red carpet this year. None-the-less I was pleasantly surprised by my number one pick for the night, Nicki Minaj. Normally Nicki goes for something a little more off the wall, but she went with sleek hair and a stunning Tom Ford gown with a plunging neckline. All I have to say is that it was really working for me. She truly looked like a class act last night and my jaw is still sitting on my living room floor. Nicki Minaj at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards wearing Tom Ford Next best was Pharrell Williams in head-to-toe Adidas. Pharrell showed up in one of his staple styles, the short suit. The cool thing about his suit last night was that when photographed, it changed color (photo of Pharrell’s red carpet look, with and without flash, below). I typically am not a huge fan of the short suit look but I am a sucker for a cool textile trick. Gwen has been one of my all time favorite famous humans all the way back to the No Doubt, pink hair days. After all, I’m just a Girl… Beyonce obviously showed up looking fabulous however so far, it seems that she was mums the word on who she was wearing because there was not a trace of a designer label attached to her look for quite some time into the evening. Luckily, you have stumbled across a very monotonous perfectionist who started a blog. So I am here to tell you that Beyonce was wearing Proenza Schouler. When I meet someone new and I am trying to figure out who they are, if you will, I ask them a certain set of questions to determine if we will become friends or not. Now obviously I cannot divulge all of these questions (I’m no fool), but one of my favorites is: “Coke or Pepsi?” Now in my opinion, when faced with a choice between Coke or Pepsi, the answer is easy. What would Beyonce do? Beyonce is a Pepsi supporter. Therefore I am all for Pepsi products. If you were unaware that Beyonce was a rep for Pepsi and don’t remember Beyonce’s Super Bowl performance two years ago, please do everyone a favor, and enlighten yourself. This year, it has been announced that Katy Perry and Lenny Kravitz are taking the stage at the Super Bowl. Why we wouldn’t just have Beyonce every year is a mystery beyond my understanding, but that’s me. We are talking about Pepsi here. Pepsi is about to have a huge moment here in a few weeks, also known as the Super Bowl Halftime Show, which is second only to the commercials that play during the actual game (who watches the actual game though?). While advertisers everywhere try desperately to come up with original, clever 30 second spots that get their product prime air time, I wonder why anyone has not gone old-school and busted a commercial out of the archives. Last time I checked, retro is in. Not to mention all the money you could save on production costs, which leads me to this: An old school Pepsi commercial featuring the king of Pop (pun intended) himself, Michael Jackson. While it is always a treat to see footage of the late MJ in his prime, the best part of this commercial is the young fellow decked out in the red jacket. While he may look like a child playing young Michael at first glance, he actually grew up to be a star in his own right. He was on a very popular TV show in the 90’s, famous also for his own dance move and recently relived his golden days on Dancing With the Stars. I am not going to tell you who it is. If you can’t figure it out after all of this, I can’t even with you.
