Many apologies to my blog fans out there for being a day late on the Oscar red carpet recap. I was traveling last weekend for my cousin’s wedding (which I was in). It was absolutely beautiful and completely perfect for her incase you were wondering – more on that at a later date. On to the Oscars red carpet top looks for 2015: If you ask me, there should be an award show at the end of award show season recognizing the designers and stylists that created the red carpet looks for that year. Since there is not, I think it is safe to assume that the Oscars red carpet is the ‘Super Bowl’ (if you will) of red carpets. That being said here are my top looks for the evening: Coming in at number one, Lupita Nyong’o literally blew my mind when she showed up in this beyond amazing Calvin Klein collection gown. She was literally dripping in pearls and I thought I was going to throw up from being so overwhelmed by my emotions. When I think of what heaven will look like for me, this dress is on my body (my body is also in great shape and my arms look exactly like Lupita’s in this vision). From the earrings, to the makeup, to the ground, Lupita seriously nailed it with this look. She has been known for her excellent style ever since she showed up on the red carpet but when Felicity Jones showed up in that Dior gown at the Golden Globes I began to fear that we had a new ‘it-girl’ on our hands. It is safe to say at the close of award show season that Lupita reigns supreme for yet another year. My second favorite look (not even close to Lupita, but second none the less) was Zoe Saldana in Atelier Versace. I thought that Zoe looked like an angel in this dress, it truly fit her perfectly and that draping in front is beautiful. I love a good drape. I also was seriously into the skinny thumb ring moment that she was having. Regardless, I have been obsessed with her since Center Stage and I am so pleased to have her in my top red carpet Oscar looks for 2015. Excellent choice for the Oscars Zoe, excellent choice. My real third choice would have been Kelly Osbourne in Rita Vinieris, but I felt weird putting her in the mix since she was actually only there because she was working the event… so I went with Meryl Streep because who doesn’t love a good Lanvin? Meryl Streep always has great style on and off the red carpet. I often say aloud to anyone who will give me their attention for more than five minutes that I hope to dress exactly like Meryl Streep when I am fifty. I would also like to have one grey stripe in my hair, have tasteful botox work so that it appears I have aged gracefully and wear diamonds every day. Coincidentally at age 25 I find myself already dressing like Meryl. No grey stripe or botox just yet… obviously. Back to Meryl’s look at the Oscars Sunday night. Loved it. Especially loved the belt. Not loving whatever her beauty people did with her eyes. We can do better next time, beauty people of Meryl Streep, lay off that dark brown around the eyes. It almost takes away from that awesome belt. Other mentionable things: Jennifer Lopez showed up looking appropriate for once. More importantly, Jennifer Aniston shocked and awed when she did not wear black. Jen wore a beaded, cream-colored Versace gown. It is not shocking that she looked amazing, because she always looks amazing. I just love seeing her in.. not black. To be fair she was not wearing black at the SAG awards either, but it has a black lace overlay. Either way, Jennifer Aniston you should wear not black more. I am loving it. From huge fashion mistakes to huge fashion moments (ahem, Lupita and Calvin Klein), the Oscars did not disappoint. Next up, the Met Gala in May. Though I assume no one will be able to stop referencing that ‘elevator moment’ that happened last year, I will be focused on the fashion and I am expecting to be brought to tears.
