Something very alarming happened to me, and the rest of the world last week. Kim Kardashian went platinum. Now this was not totally out of the blue because she has been threatening it for a while on all of her social media accounts… but what ever we thought she (and by she I mean Kanye since he pretty much runs the Kim K show these days) was planning, I am not sure that anyone was expecting her to step out full platinum. Personally, I think she had more potential to break the internet by going platinum than her original attempt with Paper Magazine. I mean everyone knows she has a HUGE behind, right? No one was ready for platinum, especially not me. I have taken a few days to reflect on this situation before posting about it mainly because it sent me spiraling into an emotional identity crisis, so I needed to take a few days to get myself together again. I am kidding. Sort of. Long story short, I went through many feelings and emotions in the days following Kim K’s platinum debut: At first I hated it. I thought it was the worst. I thought it was the stupidest idea ever and I was super pissed off at Kanye for enabling such activity. But then… as the days went on and Kim's instagram account kept flowing, I began to (in the words of Kim herself) ‘feel her look.’ I like the swooped back thing she had going on, and the whole deal was just starting to look very chic to me. Currently, my mood towards Kim’s new ‘do is positive. I am actually fighting very real urges to follow suit, just like I did when she went regular blonde. Don’t worry though Courtney, (my hair stylist at Tuscany Salon and Spa – she’s the greatest, people of Cincinnati. You need to look into getting an appointment with her) I am most likely not going to totally go off the deep end and ask you to bleach my head. Other people have reacted to Kim K’s new platinum look in other ways, lashing out through really hilarious memes. (I could not find the origin of either of these images, but a big Kudos and digital high-five to the brilliant mind that came up with these gems.) Mainly, what I am feeling is this: Can I pull of platinum blonde or not? I would never do it. But should I? I don’t know. My struggle is so real.

A common theme amongst Hollywood this time of year (other than the award show fashion moments happening left and right) is that a lot of celebrities are nowhere near the United States. This is the season when the rich and famous travel. Kicked off by the large model/it-girl NYE celebration shared by the likes of Shay Mitchell, Selena Gomez and Kendall Jenner in Dubai, jet-set season is now in full swing. This is the time of year that I become aggressively jealous when I scroll through my instagram feed as I travel the world through all the celebrity accounts that I follow. My favorite of which, being stylist Luisa Fernanda Espinosa who I originally began stalking on instagram because of her equally stylish son who is featured on the account quite often. So far I have kept my instagram inspired travel ambitions in check, aside from a few weeks ago when I wine-drunk bought two round trip plane tickets to New York City for me and my boyfriend (dead serious, I really did). Luckily there is a 24 hour cancellation policy that allows you to reverse any purchases you may have accidentally made, no extra charge.
As it turns out, in an unexpected turn of events I was chosen to fly out to Tucson, AZ for work this week. At last, I was able to parade around an airport at the same time other celebrities were parading around airports all over the world, which leads me to my point: Airport Style Moment! Half the fun of traveling is the style moment you get to have walking in and out of the airport. The question is, what is the best outfit to wear when traveling? It can be a difficult decision, especially if you are going between two different climates. I was going from 32 degrees in Cincinnati to sunny, 70 degree Tucson. The other challenge was that this was a business trip, so I needed stylish, yet refined incase I ran into any clients on the way to the conference. Most importantly, I had to look fabulous so that I could count how many people stared at me a little too long trying to figure out if I was a celebrity or not (its all in the walk, really). On the way there I went with a more casual look: Rag and Bone Kensington Jeans, T by Alexander Wang long-sleeve t, and a knit wrap sweater that I got a forever 21 a million years ago (surprisingly it looks very chic and is still holding up). As a place holder, I have the St. John knit wrap for visual purposes. Side note: if anyone would like to get me something to say “hey Don, I care,” this would be a fabulous memento. This outfit was great because I was layered, I was not freezing on the way into the airport, I kept warm on the plane and my layers were thin enough that I was not overheated once I arrived in the warmer climate. My favorite look however, was the outfit I wore home: Ann Taylor Stretch Leggings – If you are in the market for some good leggings, these are the HOLY GRAIL of leggings. Trust. Go purchase. Thank me later. With the leggings, I wore a black tank with a black Lush overlay top, a cropped statement jacket similar to this one, and Vince Camuto Boots (sadly, Vince Camuto passed away earlier this week— dedication post coming soon). I chose to wear this home so that I could parade it around the resort thursday morning before we left. Needless to say, I am pretty sure I was mistaken for someone famous at least seven times. Or everyone just liked my outfits. Who’s to say? In other news, I had never been to Tucson before and I am officially obsessed. I stayed at the Westin La Paloma where there were mountains everywhere I looked. While I never got to hike to the top of the mountain (we were stuck indoors for most of the trip), I did get to go on a hike and encounter textures I had never seen in real life before. My favorite thing was this barrel cactus: The photos on my instagram do not do Tucson or the Westin La Paloma justice. Long story short, I am already planning a real vacation around this time next year back in the exact same place.
