The most exciting part of the red carpet arrived right as things were winding down and people were going inside to find their seats. Rihanna popped out of a dark SUV wearing the most fabulous, fluffy 'so not Rihanna' gown. The best part were the images of Cinderella racing the clock to get home before the stroke of midnight that began running through my head as she dashed across the red carpet. It was truly a wonderful, un-scripted fashion moment. She did stop briefly to chat with Ryan Seacrest of E! to tell him that she was wearing Giambattista Valli, that she saw the dress on the runway and absolutely had to wear it. Then just like a dream, se was whisked inside to find her seat before the real show started. Now, I have had very mixed feelings about Rihanna over the past year, especially after her association with the Beyonce/Jay Z split rumors (rumors for the record, that I steadfastly denied to everyone who would listen), but the moment that she created last night (along with her new associations with my #1, Leonardo DiCaprio) have me re-thinking this whole Rihanna thing. Dare I say it, I might even like her now.
I have to say, as much as hollywood “showed out” for the SAG awards a few weeks ago, I was slightly under whelmed by the Grammy Awards red carpet this year. None-the-less I was pleasantly surprised by my number one pick for the night, Nicki Minaj. Normally Nicki goes for something a little more off the wall, but she went with sleek hair and a stunning Tom Ford gown with a plunging neckline. All I have to say is that it was really working for me. She truly looked like a class act last night and my jaw is still sitting on my living room floor. Nicki Minaj at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards wearing Tom Ford Next best was Pharrell Williams in head-to-toe Adidas. Pharrell showed up in one of his staple styles, the short suit. The cool thing about his suit last night was that when photographed, it changed color (photo of Pharrell’s red carpet look, with and without flash, below). I typically am not a huge fan of the short suit look but I am a sucker for a cool textile trick. Pharrell Williams at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards wearing Adidas Third favorite was Gwen Stefani in Versace. Gwen has been one of my all time favorite famous humans all the way back to the No Doubt, pink hair days. After all, I’m just a Girl… Beyonce obviously showed up looking fabulous however so far, it seems that she was mums the word on who she was wearing because there was not a trace of a designer label attached to her look for quite some time into the evening. Luckily, you have stumbled across a very monotonous perfectionist who started a blog. So I am here to tell you that Beyonce was wearing Proenza Schouler. Its official, the SAG awards red carpet has come to a close and as all of our favorite television stars went inside to find their seats, I was (and still am) having heart palpitations at the thought of what my eyes will see at the Oscars. The SAG Awards’ red carpet has definitely upped the anti for what we should expect to see come Sunday, February 22nd. Although I could sit here reminiscing about all of my favorite red carpet moments for days, one thing is for sure: Menswear is having a moment. One of the stars fully embracing menswear style this year, my number one pick from last night's red carpet, Emma Stone in Dior Couture. I have one word to describe this look: BEY-OND! We saw Emma, in her words, “trying out something new” in a menswear inspired Lanvin jumpsuit at the Golden Globes earlier this year, but she has taken the menswear trend to the next level (not to mention revived my soul) via Dior Couture. Coming in at a close second, we have Felicity Jones wearing Balenciaga. Felicity got a ton of buzz at the golden globes this year for that show stopping Dior gown she pranced down the red carpet in (rivaling the Lupita Nyong’o headband moment last year), but this dress is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen her in. The dress, the earrings, the clutch – nailed it. For third place, we have a three-way tie. Mainly because I just cannot pick one over the other (but secretly i think Julianne Moore's look is my favorite of the three... if i had to pick). Julianne Moore in Givenchy, Julia Roberts also in Givenchy and Julianna Margulies in Giambattista Valli. Honorable mentions go to Jennifer Aniston in vintage Galliano (because who doesn’t love a good body chain moment) and Lenny Kravitz in Saint Laurent – because he is performing next weekend at the Super Bowl and I love a good Saint Laurent suit. What I am really trying to say here is that I am fully prepared and currently in hot pursuit of pieces to add to my wardrobe in order to embrace this menswear trend, however that is another blog post for another day. Stay Tuned.
