You know all of those braids that you have been seeing on the red carpet lately? Well you can thank Donna Karan and her spring/summer 2015 runway show for that. To be fair she was not the only one using braids (her rope braids were just giving me and everyone else in the beauty world life after their big debut) for S/S fashion week, they were actually all over the runways. Whether you like it or not Miranda Priestly was right in Devil Wears Prada, what designers choose on the runway dictates what the trends will be and ultimately dictates what you will be buying come spring. You may have noticed that all of the ‘it’ girls in fashion are becoming increasingly obsessed with the concept of Parisian style. A book called How to be Parisian Wherever You Are: Love, Style and Bad Habits has been circulating all over instagram as the new style book to read. After what we saw on the Spring/Summer 2015 runways last fall it is clear that we will be picking up not only Parisian style but Parisian beauty as well. Enter the ‘No Makeup, Makeup’ beauty look that you will be dying for come April. Fun Fact: Marc Jacobs shocked all with this trend for his SRTW 2015 show. Francois Nars is actually best pals with Marc Jacobs and Mars Jacobs shows are the only shows that Francois will personally do makeup for. Makeup rules for that show were easy: moisturizer only, no complexion products (luckily the fashion models in that show all had excellent skin). Other trends for spring are bright, natural lips and a new take on the contour that we have all come to know and love via the Kardashian family. Who do I turn to when I am trying to explore the newest trend of the season you ask? My very good friend and makeup artist for NARS, Danielle Braeuer of course. Danielle and I spent hours going through all of the trends and I am here to bring you how-to’s so that you can give the fashion it-girls a run for their money come spring. Stay tuned for the next three Saturdays to get an exclusive look on the beauty trends for Spring and how to make it happen on your very own face.

I'm sorry, I should have warned you. I am a closet (going public as you read) Kardashian enthusiast. I find the entire squad fascinating. While I am in a constant internal battle as to whether they disgust me completely or I am completely obsessed with them, this what I am sure of: Kendall Jenner has just landed the Marc Jacobs spring 2015 campaign and is the coolest Kardashian. Also not to be overlooked is Kim K, who like it or not has built an entire empire off of her… assets. In other words, somebody knows how to self-brand and I am looking at you Kim. Yes, we all want Khloe to find love and Kourtney to just marry Scott Disick already, but that is another story for another day. What we are really here to discuss today is the girl, the lips, the legend, Kylie Jenner and that ever expanding pout. Below is a photo of Kylie Jenner one year ago next to a photo of her now. Side note: I do not suggest following this little pout princess on instagram. Mainly because things have been getting… weird… and lucky for you, I follow her so you don’t have to. That’s a lie, I follow her for me because I truly cannot help myself, but the point is you get to reap the benefits of my compulsions.
What has transpired in or around Kylie Jenner’s lips over the past year has yet to be disclosed to the public. Botox? Plastic Surgery? Really good lip plumper that no one else knows about? For the moment, we remain unclear as to what exactly is going on there but what America’s sweetheart and breaker of the internet, Kim Kardashian is claiming we can chalk it up to the good old makeup trick known as the ‘overdrawn lip’. As I have said, I have spent a significant amount of time scouring the internet to figure out how to make this overdrawn lip thing a reality for myself. Thanks to pinterest, countless hours at the Nordstrom Makeup counter and my very own personal glam guru Danielle Braeuer, we have finally figured it out. The trick, my friends, is in the contour. For those of you who didn’t pay attention in art class: light colors maximize, darker colors minimize. Using this technique you can visually reshape your entire face, but for our purposes, we just need to focus on the lips. Things you need: Highlighter – NYX Wonder Pencil A liner slightly darker than your lipstick – NYX Slim Lip Pencil in mauve is close to Kylie Jenner’s usual hue. Your Lipstick – NARS audacious lipstick, Anna Gloss – not for me, but it’ll take your pout to the next level. What You Do:
Step 1: Outline the corners of your lips with your highlighter pencil, or cover the area using a foundation one shade lighter than your usual. Step 2 : Take your liner, and trace outside of your natural lip. Take baby steps if you are artistically challenged, it will help keep everything looking even. Step 3: Contour as seen in the photo. Step 4: Lipstick time, apply lightly so you don’t cover up all that contour work. I even go back and touch up the liner after I do the lipstick. Step 5: (optional) Gloss Or go to Danielle at the NARS counter in Nordstrom and she will hook you up with the good stuff (all NARS everything) show you the way to the promise pout. I have to say I am obsessed. As for Kylie, she seems to be basking in the attention she is getting for this new look and is amping it up one instagram at a time. Stay tuned... Xoxo, The Don |
